You are not using the RandR 1.2 driver (6.7.19x in experimental). You
are using the old-style driver (6.6.193 from unstable). But the
xorg.conf simplification that you're talking about targets RandR 1.2
drivers only.

So you should upgrade xserver-xorg-video-ati to experimental
(1:6.7.195-2). 6.6.193 is a dead-end anyway, all the work is done in
6.7.19x nowadays.
