Bug#446901: compiz ignores gconf modifications and number_of_desktops value
Package: compiz
Version: 0.5.2-2
Severity: important
Hi,
I recently did an apt-get dist-upgrade and compiz was upgraded from
previous version 0.2.something. I noticed mainly 2 problems:
a) now, after any modification made through gconf-editor, I have to
logout and login to get the new configuration applied;
b) compiz seems to ignore completely the value of the key
"number_of_desktops":
- if I set hsize=1, number_of_desktops=anything-more-than-1 I get only
one desktop; usually I use hsize=6, I get a 6-face prism,
independently from the value of number_of_desktops key;
- "Window Selector" applet shows all open windows (on any face of my
6-face prism)
- "Window List" applet, in spite of being configured to show only
windows from current workspace, shows all open windows (again,
including windows from all the 6 faces of the prism) ---> I desume
gnome is "seeing" only one workspace;
- "Workspace Switcher" applet is the funniest one. I have to manually
set the number of workspaces to be the same as hsize (this happened
also with previous version, it's not a great problem). Only the first
workspace of the 6 represented in the W.S. has a miniature on it, it
displays the window(s) on the current face of the prism. If I change
the face with ctrl+alt+left/right, the miniature stays on the first
position in W.S. but changes, representing the window(s) on the
now-active face. If I try to change desktop clicking on W.S. (on a
rectangle representing the non-first workspace on the left of W.S.)
it crashes, bringing with him my gnome-panels (I use 3 panels).
Before upgrade, I set manually the number of desktops in workspace
switcher to be the same as compiz's hsize key and each face of the prism
was represented on W.S. Clicking on one of the workspaces on W.S. made
the prism rotate until the active face was the one selected by clicking
on W.S. I've never had issues with workspaces before upgrade, so I
cannot say which the value of number_of_desktops was.
Regards,
Giacomo
