I tried removing the SendCoreEvents option, and it didn't change the behavior. I didn't reboot, but I did /etc/init.d/gdm stop followed by /etc/init.d/gdm start. A single click still acts like a double click. I also tried using an IceWM session to eliminate my GNOME settings as a source of the problem. It behaved the same under IceWM.
