Hi,
i googled around a bit, and found this topic:

http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7129

which may be related. I tried adding the option:

Option "DDC" "no"

to the Device section of my xorg.conf, X started up in 1024x768
(wrong), with 96x96 dpi resolution (correct), and the font were no
more giant (correct). I wasn't able to turn it again to 1280x800, so
by now I disabled DDC option (and got again my giant fonts).
My hardware: I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop, graphic card
is an Intel i945, both drivers intel and i810 give the same problem.
Monitor is the laptop's one. Here is my lspci:

I attach an Xorg.0.log as requested, and attach also the output of
xdpyinfo, the Xorg.0.log taken with the <Option "DDC" "no"> (right
resolution but wrong dimensions) and my xorg.conf.

Thanks,
Giacomo
