Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.2.1-6
Severity: wishlist

Hello Branden,

In an attempt to improve menus in Debian, I have made a review of the
menu entries provided by xbase-client.

Here the result:

 Bitmap\
 Editres\
 Oclock\
 Xbiff\
 Xcalc\
 Xclipboard\
 "Xclock (analog)"\
 "Xclock (digital)"\
 Xcutsel\
 Xeyes\
 Xfontsel\
 Xedit\
 Xev\
 Xkill\
 Xload\
 Xmag\
 Xman\
 Xrefresh\
 Xvidtune\

OK, no problem, that works and is basically useful.

Beforelight\

I have never been able to make beforelight do something, so I cannot say
if this entry is legitimate. beforelight manpage and
/etc/X11/app-defaults/Beforelight are not specially explicit either.

Xconsole\

I get window stating "Couldn't open console" so I am not sure it serve
a purpose.

Xditview\

I have never been able to do anything with it outside displaying
a blank screen.

Xlogo\

Well this work, but is not very useful even as a toy.

Xsetroot\

It works but this not tremendously useful. We usually set the root window at
log in time and having a menu entry that does not allows to choose
another is not useful.

"X Window Snapshot"\

It works but this is not tremendously useful either, since we cannot
save the snapshot anywhere.

The problem with that two last entries is that theirs titles imply you
will be able to perform something (cange the toot wondow/take a
snapshot) when in fact you cannot.

Cheers,
Bill.

Most of these issues (if not all) should be fixed in the new menu entries.

Thanks,
Brice
