Is the problem different with other monitors?

This is likely related to your X driver since it is responsible for
displaying the cursor.

Does adding
    Option "SWCursor" "yes"
to the device section help?

When did the problem start happening? Do you know which packages you
upgraded at this time? /var/log/dpkg.log or /var/log/aptitude might help
you remember.

According to upstream, the xgi driver could be better than the sis one
for this hardware. But we didn't package xgi for Debian yet. Is there a
chance you try building xgi manually? There's a how-to on
http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/10936.html, you'll have to replace intel
with xgi there. Once it is installed, change the driver from sis to xgi
in xorg.conf and restart X. Let me know if you need more help.
