Can you reproduce it? If so, could you catch a debugging backtrace with
xserver-xorg-core-dbg, xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg and gdb? Does anything
interesting appear in stdout/stderr?

There's almost nothing in this backtrace unfortunately :(
