       (Debian #403360).

The effect of that was to make the first character not necessarily decoded
properly - particularly when starting xterm as itself rather than via the
uxterm script.

You can disregard my comments. Today everything works fine (I have no idea why)... Maybe a package that was not yet fully installed.
