FYI

Have a look at the overview [0] of xserver-xorg-video-savage. You'llfind a patch from ubuntu for version 1:2.1.2-5ubuntu1 [1] "SkipShadowWait if DRI is already shut down".

I installed the ubuntu binaries[2] for the purpose of testing and thepatch actually resolves the issue where X hangs when you log out of an Xsession.
