Bug#402178: Debian MIPS Xorg: server won't start

Hi Brice:

I solved the problem following these instructions:

- select /dev/psaux as mouse port, PS/2 protocol
- select 1280x1024 as resolution, another resolution is not supported
- add Option "no_accel" to "Device" section
Section "Device"
Identifier "SGI Newport"
Driver "newport"
Option "no_accel" <-- *** this is the key point ***
EndSection
This avoids this error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/newport_drv.so: undefined symbol

I found the solution searching on the Internet some time after the error appeared:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mips/2007/02/msg00010.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-mips@lists.debian.org/msg06376.html
http://help.lockergnome.com/linux/Indy-Org-ftopict409638.html

Now it works like a charm.

If I can help you in any way please contact me, thank you very much for your interest, I'm very pleased.

Hi Alvaro,

Does this problem about the Xorg server not starting still happens with
latest xserver-xorg-core and drivers? Does X crash ? Or does it just
fail to display anything ? Do you get a crash backtrace and the end of
Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.0.log.old) when this happens? I don't see anything
like this in the log you provided, but it was not clear whether this log
was the one of the X server when the problem occured.

Brice
