I just upgraded xserver-xorg-core from 2:1.1.1-21 to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-5 
and encountered this same bug.

Thank you Vincent Lönngren for the hint of how to override this issue. 
I have a system that physically is 133 DPI but prefer 75 or 100 DPI fonts.

Thanks to an Ubuntu bug report, I found the easy way to utilize this 
information (

/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc:
-ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp
+ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp -dpi 75
