Probably nothing, it seems like either the X server process is in a very
weird state or there's a bug in gdb. In some cases like this, I was able
to overcome the problem using older versions of gdb.


BTW, I haven't seen one of my questions answered: When the problem
happens and you kill the X server, does a new X server come up and work
normally?
