Those are typical symptoms of a GPU lockup.
Does the X server come up again after killing it though? If so, it's
unlikely a lockup but could be related to #179647.
If not, it's probably a video driver bug and disabling the DRI should
work around it. Other than that, you could try if disabling Option
"UseFBDev" makes a difference.
