I can open dillo, look at my filesystem and open all kinds of graphics without xorg crashing. It's only after I try to connect with the network where the screen just goes totally black. I tried the 2.6.20 kernel from unstable and had the same result. I also tried changing the network card, but not only was I not able to get a network connection but I also couldn't get xorg to start at all anymore. The funny thing is that the network works fine when xorg isn't running. I guess it's just a matter of figuring out what the read out from dmesg means. I could try to find an older 2.6.15 or 2.6.17 kernel from when etch was in testing, but I'll have to find it first. 2.6.8 from sarge doesn't install because of some dependency thing.

It could be a hardware conflict between your network interface and
graphic board. Do they use the same interrupt line according to
/proc/interrupts?
If you had a PC, I would have told you to look in the BIOS for
"plug-n-play OS" or so, but since this is a mac I don't know.

By the way, when did this problem appear? Did you have Xorg+network
working fine before? What did you upgrade in the meantime?
