upgrade from sarge to etch fails with

  rmdir: /usr/X11R6/bin: Directory not empty
  dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/x11-common_1%3a7.1.0-13_i386.deb (--unpack):
   subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
  Errors were encountered while processing:

# ls /usr/X11R6/bin/
hamsoft  hanterm

# dpkg -S /usr/X11R6/bin/*
