Whenever I start X, I get:

shmget(lowmem) error: Invalid argument

First, I thought I got a buggy update by apt-get upgrade and recovered old version from backup. That one started X one time, since then it also fails. Yes, I rebooted and tried again to no avail. Windows XP runs fine, so I guess it is no hardware error. How can I check that?
