Version: 4.1.0-9
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

when the X11 server crashes or aborts, it is necessary to look at
/var/log/XFree86.*.log in order to identify the problem. Unfortunately, when
using a display manager, xdm/kdm/gdm/wdm immediately restarts the X11 server
and this log file is overwritten. This is a problem especially when the crash
is not easily reproducible.

So could you please rotate those log files when a new server starts ?

You could for instance use XFree86.*.log.[0-9][.gz] in order to archive the
last 10 versions, as do most daemons.

Closing since there is log rotation (the old log is renamed to .old
before the new replaces it). It's not exactly what you requested but
it's better than nothing.
