So, the correct solution here is probably to just uninstall fglrx (you probably don't need anyway if you have a i810 board?).
You are 100% right there. 1. It actually was fglrx-driver breaking it, 2. a fglrx-driver is not needed with an i810 chip and 3. I don't know why the fglrx-driver package was installed anyways.I wonder, if the problem could have been avoided somehow with different dependencies or different packages - when I started looking what was wrong, I didn't really have a clue what caused the problem.
