Mesa and libdrm Maintenance

Hi Marcelo,

I'm not sure if you track debian-x, but Thierry Reding has been doing a
significant amount of work lately on the libdrm and mesa packages in the
XSF svn repository on an experimental branch. We haven't uploaded this to
the archive yet because the changes are rather invasive. Given that 6.5.2
is on the horizon, and you've been largely busy with other things over the
past several months, the XSF would like to take on the responsibility for
both mesa and libdrm in the future.

We don't want to hijack the packages, but if you don't have the time or
interest to maintain them, then it's apparent that we are going to need to
take on responsibility for them in order to continue our own work. Thierry
has volunteered to be the primary maintainer for them within the XSF, and
he's shown himself to be very capable at it so far. If you would like to
continue working as a maintainer on the packages, we'd be happy to have you
as a co-maintainer.

What this means in practice though, is that certain changes do need to
be made. First is the repackaging that is already done will be important to
allow this to be effectively team-maintained. Second is that we'll need
access to the repository where the source is stored, and the XSF
repository, be it the current svn one or the future git one, will become
the canonical home of the packages. Finally, we'll probably be abandoning
the mesa alioth project at this point in favor of the usual X channels.

Once again, we don't want to hijack these packages if we don't have to.
If you want to keep working on them, you are welcome to do so along with
us. We would welcome both your abilities and your experience. If you don't
want to keep working on them or don't have the time, we'd appreciate your
blessing.

 On behalf of the XSF,
 David Nusinow
