Package: xdm Version: 1:1.0.5-1 Severity: wishlist Upon logging in to xdm, there are these two beeps and then the wireless sit0 is enabled with no way to turn it off via ifdown, ifplugd, ifconfig, etc. kernel: NET: Registered protocol family 10 kernel: lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions kernel: IPv6 over IPv4 tunneling driver ifplugd.agent[2892]: Invoking ifplugd for sit0 kernel: sit0: Disabled Privacy Extensions I don't want to get irradiated all day. Must I be forced to use /dev/tty1 to do work instead of starting xwindows? I don't see why you must bundle turning on wireless with logging into xdm. No I can't find the configuration file to turn it off. Yes, no matter how long I wait, the moment I log into xdm there are the two beeps and ifconfig shows sit0 up and there's no way to turn it off. -- Postscript to the several bugs I reported about this today to various packages: OK, dpkg-reconfigure ifplugd solved it. However before you close the bug "just wanted to let you know of some of the difficulties lesser brained users encountered". Also in the BIOS I had the wireless disabled as extra precaution. Perhaps some of the programs never expected that. But the two beeps make one wonder if it ended up getting turned on anyway, even though the Thinkpad r50e's antenna symbol stays dark.
