Package: xserver-xorg_6.9.0.dfsg.1-4_i386.deb
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4_i386
I have been using the testing distribution on my home machine for over a
year, with periodic upgrades. My system is a Shuttle P4 with an SATA hard
drive, ATI Radeon 9200 SE. My kernel is 2.4.27-1-686 (when I got the
machine, the 2.6 kernels had trouble with the SATA drive, so I use the 2.4
kernel). I use the Xorg X server, and I use gnome, including gdm.
I upgraded on Thursday, 2/9. All went OK except that gnomines broke. Oh
well. Then last night I decided to try again. What the heck, maybe
whatever broke gnomines was fixed.
This latest upgrade last night (Monday) broke dri -- or so it seems. Up until
this upgrade, X had been working fine. The new one would not start, and I
saw the log /var/log/Xorg.0.log reporting:
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci:0000:01:00.0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 8
drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card1
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card2
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
...
continuing like this until /dev/dri/card18 where, oddly, there was a device
file, but there it stopped. That device file was apparently present before
both of these upgrades, since it is in my backup. The X server apparently is
not running, although the screen (black) seems to change intensity (brighter
backlight, then dim) at about a 1Hz frequency.
Commenting out dri from /etc/X11/xorg.conf allowed me to get X up and running
again.
BTW, gnomine is still broken -- broken on my office machine as well. No
biggie.
