I've now installed the Ubuntu server, assed in the desktop software I prefer, the crashes are not occurring, and my system is performing all the essential functions I had originally planned to run under Debian. It's not the workaround I had hoped for, but it'll do intil Debian gets fixed. Is there anything useful I can do in terms of trying to identify meaningful differences between the two systems? -- hendrik
