I'm already using mesa 6.5 (the version in unstable doesn't work
properly on my system for some reason), and apt-get refuses to install
the i810 driver from experimental unless I install xserver-xorg-core
(1.1.1-1) as well.

Of course, maybe it's conflicting with the other xserver-xorg-*
components. I'll try again with a more complete upgrade later this week.
(I already have a patched X server for 1.0.2-9 to deal with the
ValidatePCI() bug, so I'm not in a hurry to upgrade.)

Yep.

OK, I'll try that. And this time I'll try to capture crash logs as well,
if that helps to track down the problem.
