Bug#362078: xserver-xorg: dpkg-reconfigure doesn't work if the xorg.conf has been customized

I was wrong.  The hack does work.  The problem still exists but this solves it 
for my system.

Just to verify - this problem still exists.  and the "fix" mentioned does not
work.  It only gets rid of the error message but still creates no new
xorg.conf file.
