All the above indeed suggests that the problem is specific to your
system (or at least a very small set of systems). It would be great if
you could check upstream whether it's fixed in current xf86-video-intel
git, and if it isn't, report it upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org
and try to isolate the change that caused it with git bisect.
