Bug#365654: duplicate libXfont.so found
As libXfont seemed to be the cause of the error, and I managed to get
a new install working just fine, I wondered if perhaps there was an
old version of libXfont not cleaned up in my upgrade.
To my surprise I found that I had installed the CVS version when
tinkering with cairo, perhaps two years ago. Uninstalling the
second copy of libXfont allowed X to start up normally.
Why I never encountered an error before this, I am not sure.
Perhaps the /usr/local directory was not being queried before the
upgrade, or the version I had installed manually was compatible with
other libraries until this upgrade.
I don't know what the resolution is for the other reporters, but for
me, my X works again.
