Package: xfonts-base
Version: 4.1.0-11
Severity: important

It would appear that the -adobe-* fonts (or at least -adobe-helvetica-*) are
seriously amiss. Applications are unable to get a valid FontSet, and this is
causing many programs (which rely on adobe fonts being installed, most notably
-adobe-helvetica) to fail miserably; several Gnome applications (including
Galeon) crash when they try bringing up a configuration pane as per
libgnomeui32 (which assumes adobe-helvetica is present, and has no fallback to
Fixed; I've already submitted a separate bugreport regarding that issue, though
I haven't gotten the tracking number back yet).

Even xfontsel gets confused, and simply doesn't update the preview pane, as
seen at http://trikuare.cx/~magenta/temp/fontsel.gif (those are droppings left
over by the popup menus since the preview pane isn't being redrawn at all).

I'm wondering if the respective .pcf.gz files have gotten corrupted somehow, or
if a fonts.alias is broken (as per bug #100057), or what...

I tested this on an 'etch' system by uninstalling xfs and deleting all the
'unscaled' lines in my xorg.conf. Xfontsel still had no trouble.

Accordingly this appears to be fixed in etch. It may well be fixed in sarge already,
but I didn't test that.
