Bug#372296: xserver-xorg: updating to 1:7.0.21 screws up fonts in GTK1.2 applications

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.21
Severity: important

upgrading 'xserver-xorg 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6' to 'xserver-xorg 1:7.0.21'
screws up fonts in GTK1.2 applications like e.g. xmms or xlogmaster
in KDE. this seems to be the same bug as #320458 which was filed
for 'xserver-xorg 6.8.2.dfsg.1-10'. check:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=320458

so, i guess the problem is the same as in #320458 in which the trouble
was caused by the disabled bytecode interpreter in xorg's internal
freetype2 library. i checked and the line....
#define  TT_CONFIG_OPTION_BYTECODE_INTERPRETER
is in fact commented in my ...
xc/extras/freetype2/include/freetype/config/ftoption.h

i hope this helps fixing the problem.

best, frank

by the way: at first i thought installing 'gtk2-engines-gtk-qt' might
do the trick. but applying KDE-fonts and -styles in GTK apps again
only works for GTK2 not GTK1.2 apps.
