Package: libxvmc-dev
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-1
Severity: important

ld does link libXvMCW statically at the moment, because the versionless
symlink is missing in the xvmc development package.
the same problem exists for the via XvMC shared libraries.

p.s.:
severity is important due to the fact it is a violation of a 'should'
statement in policy, section 8.4

[...]

The symlink for libXvMC *was* there in 6.9.0.dfsg.1-1:
---------------------
ametzler@merkel:/tmp$ dpkg --contents libxvmc-dev_6.9.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb |egrep
 'XvMC.so '
lrwxrwxrwx root/root         0 2005-12-29 00:38:25 ./usr/X11R6/lib/libXvMC.so -> libXvMC.so.1.0
---------------------

The really missing one for libXvMCW.so is now included in 1:1.0.1-4:
---------------------
ametzler@merkel:/tmp$ dpkg --contents libxvmc-dev_1.0.1-4_ia64.deb |egrep 'so '
lrwxrwxrwx root/root         0 2006-04-19 06:12:23 ./usr/lib/libXvMC.so -> libXvMC.so.1.0.0
lrwxrwxrwx root/root         0 2006-04-19 06:12:23 ./usr/lib/libXvMCW.so -> libXvMCW.so.1.0.0
---------------------
Closing.
