I cannot reproduce this in 1:1.0.1-4:
ametzler@merkel:/tmp$ dpkg -x /org/ftp.root/debian/pool/main/libx/libxvmc/libxvmc-dev_1.0.1-4_powerpc.deb xvcpower
ametzler@merkel:/tmp$ objdump  -r xvcpower/usr/lib/libXvMCW.a | grep
REL24
ametzler@merkel:/tmp$

could you please doublecheck?
