Right, and in this case, while upstream (which is me) uses Debian, he
(I) accidentally used autoconf 2.13, which doesn't seem to have the
relevant fix.  And I don't really want to make a new upstream release
just for this.  (Although I am going to put Aaron's patch in the
project patches section for future inclusion.)

So, anyway, I'm pretty sure that Andreas has the right solution.  It
matches everything I know about the problem.  We'll know for sure
after my next upload hits the autobuilders.  :)
