Bug#357713: xbase-clients: startx in xorg 7.0.4 forgets default wm & session manager

After upgrading from Sid 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 to experimental 7.0.4, startx
forgets that my system's default DE is GNOME, and fires up a barren
xterm window.
In that xterm, I must run these commands to get to GNOME:
metacity&
gnome-session&
There must be a Debian Way to fix it, but I can't find it...
