Bug#343387: xdm: 'login incorrect' when in fact single user mode

Package: xdm
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-9
Severity: wishlist

When the system is in single user mode (boot single), and one does
# invoke-rc.d xdm start
and root tries to login on the xdm screen, he will get a message that
boot is in progress, so don't login now, etc.
However, when a normal user tries to login, he will get "Login incorrect",
only causing him to keep on trying, thinking he typed his password
incorrectly, or maybe his account and files are all gone etc.
Just tell him login was successful, but come back later, as I recall he
is told at a normal getty prompt.
