Package: x-window-system-core
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-5
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

currently, x-window-system-core depends on xserver-xorg, which denies
the alternative installation of xserver-xfree86. Is this intentional?
Would it instead be possible to depend on the virtual package xserver
and let users decide if they like to have X.org or XFree86?

Thanks for your work & regards
   Mario

Hello, Mario. Sorry for the delay, I did not noticed your report.

	XFree86 or X.Org...that's the question. :-)

Seriously, XFree86 has nothing to do with Debian as far as they keep their=
=20
license term, that a lot of people found controversial and against Debian=20
=46ree Software Guidelines (http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guideline=
s).=20
See Debian X FAQ in /usr/share/doc/x11-common/FAQ.xhtml (included in the=20
x11-common package, points "What is the story with XFree86's license?" and=
=20
"What are Debian's plans with respect to X.Org and XFree86?".

	In short:

Debian will move away from the XFree86 tree as soon as possible after the=20
upcoming stable release due to its license issues.

So I am going to close your bug.

	Best regards,

		Ender.
