	Could you please test latest version (204-0pre1) from experimental and see if 
it works? It works for me (I use ISO8859-15):

ender@polgara:~$ xterm -u8
xterm$ cat > /tmp/lala
ññññíííí
^D
xterm$ exit

	Then I open the file in my usual environment and it is full of UTF-8 
characters:

ender@polgara:~$ cat /tmp/lele
ññññrrrríííí­­­­
