I finally found this ooold bug still open... I don't see which informations needed more. But let me try to explain more: The Compose file (and Xlib) provides some kind of a simple input method, usually for iso8859-* users like a method with dead key (various accents like umlauts, cedilla, etc.). But CJK inputs are too complex to be done with the Compose file and Xlib. They are usually done by a separate XIM server. But the problem is, Compose file always has higher priority than XIM, unless XMODIFIERS environment variable is defined. This means all CJK users have to set their own XMODIFIERS environment variable in xsession or like to use any XIM server. Gentoo recently removed the Compose files in CJK locales: http://www.gentoo-italia.net/filemgmt_data/files/xorg-unichrome-6.8.0-r30.ebuild -- Changwoo Ryu <cwryu@debian.org>
