This is craziness having to do with modifier maps, and Denis Barbier could explain it much better than I could. > Section "InputDevice" > Identifier "Keyboard0" > Driver "keyboard" > Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" > Option "XkbModel" "pc105" > Option "XkbLayout" "ca" > Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps lv3:rwin_switch" > # -model pc105 -layout ca -option lv3:rwin_switch > EndSection > > (though i haven't been able to get the caps lock to behave like a > control key yet :| ). On a real Macintosh keyboard, that's just about impossible due to the electronic design of the caps lock key, as I understand it. The damnable things actually "latch" in hardware. I'm a Mac user myself, and have confirmed this as far as I'm able, which excludes actually busting the keyboard (or laptop) open and attaching probes and logic analyzers and stuff to it. -- G.
