Bug#286067: marked as done (xterm: XTerm.VT100.iconFont does not correctly support UTF-8)

XTerm.VT100.iconFont does not correctly support UTF8: the font is not used =

if xterm is started with UTF8 on but you can switch to UTF8 by tek menu=20
=5Fafter=5F you started the xterm. Therfore the font usage is also=20
inconsistent.

i.e. export LANG=3Den=5FUS.UTF8. Start xterm and it does/can not use the=20
default font "nil2" if the XTerm.VT100.locale uses UTF8 (or=20
XTerm.VT100.utf8 is set).

(to prove this use a window manager that supports icons i.e. fvwm and set=20
the X resource "XTerm.VT100.activeIcon: true".)

As Thomas Dickey noted, this was fixed in XTerm #197, which was
incorporated into version 4.3.0.dfsg.1-9 of the xterm Debian package
release.
