Bug#299622: xserver-xfree86: dpkg-reconfigure does not create /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Hello,

I tried several times to dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 but no
file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 is created and if I put one in this
place this remains unchanged even if I do several changes.

I attach an strace run of

      strace dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

in case this might be helpful - no idea what else might help here.

Besides this configuration problem I do not menage to get this damn
card working except in VESA mode :-( - but this is another topic...
