Bug#296539: Further Information

I downloaded (but did not install) the packages and it appears that most 
binary files (e.g. /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libshadow.a) are multiple 
times larger than in the previous version.

Maybe the build process did not include stripping the binaries in the 
latest packages?
