Hi 

do you have an  HWcursor setting in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 ?
if yes, does it start if you comment it ?

Can you also send  the file "log" genereated by :
$ exec 3<>log /usr/share/bug/xserver-xfree86 &

this will include the X last log, the configuration file, and
checks results to know if your installation is vanilla or
modified by other packages.
