Bug#247712: Start check prohibits automatic installation
Package: xdm
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1
On configuration stage, xdm does a /etc/init.d/xdm start which will fail
and subsequently make the configuration stage to fail if the
configuration is done:
1) in an automatic install environment with a fake start-stop-daemon
(like debootstrap)
2) on a server that has no proper hardware to start xdm (no video card)
I think that the best option would be to make failure of start atempt to
non-fatal to the post-install script, or to remove the extra check for
existance or /var/run/xdm.pid and rely on features provided by
start-stop-daemon.
