I have an old Netscape 4.77 dating back from Potato that I absolutely need to access certain sites that refuse to work
with Mozilla or even Opera. Unfortunately, it is dependant upon xlib6g, which seems to be absent in XFree86 4.3.0.
Luckily, I recall reading somewhere that it should be possible to generate xlib6g if needed (it simply was omitted
from the Debian release because almost nothing depends upon it nowadays, IIRC), but I do not remember what to enable
in the building scripts to get the required xlib6g_<version>_<arch>.deb archive. Could you please tell me? Thanks!
Alternately, if some existing 4.3.0 packages are supposed to "Provides: xlib6g, libxaw6" this might work. If this is
possible, could you tell me which packages to install? Thanks!

I am sorry, but the xlib6g package name is was deprecated in the woody
release and will be entirely absent in sarge.
You may be able to rectify your problem, however, by using the "equivs"
package:

This is a dummy package which can be used to create Debian
packages which only contain dependency information.

This way, you can make the Debian package management
system believe that equivalents to packages which other
packages do depend on are actually installed.

Another possibility is creation of a meta package. When this
package contains a dependency as "Depends: a, b, c", then
installing this package will also select packages a, b and c.
Instead of "Depends", you can also use "Recommends:" or
"Suggests:" for less demanding dependency.

Please note that this is a crude hack and if thoughtlessly used,
it might possibly do damage to your packaging system. And please
note as well that using it is not the recommended way of dealing
with broken dependencies. Better file a bug report instead.
Incidentally, Konqueror, the KDE browser, has a feature that allows you
to customize the User-Agent string supplied on a per-site basis. I
don't need this functionality anymore, but when I did I found it very
useful for getting access to sites that used very stupid JavaScript, and
excluded non-IE browsers.
