Hi,

The issue appears because in kernel 2.6, PS/2 input devices were merged
into the generic input layer (where e. G. USB devices were before).

If you want to get it work quickly, it might be the easiest to use
/dev/input/mice instead of /dev/psaux.

In case you want to switch between 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, it may work to
define two input devices, both of them enabled to send core events, so
that the X-Server always is able to open at least one.
