Great, thank you!  I have adapted it, added the paths to the gdm and wdm
config files, and cleaned up the English to suit my own persnickety
standards.  I'll be committing it shortly.

The above request is out of the scope of this bug report, and I'd rather
not resolve the issue this way.  A superior approach, I think, would be
to have a README.Debian that is placed in *every* XFree86 binary
package.
