Yes, I did. But as I said, I tried with my previous kernel but with the
same results.

Unfortunately, no.

Sure, the output is included below. After messing around today, I also got a 
XFree86.log.0 (when running as a normal user, not when running as root), I
included that below as well. Other than that, I also got got a garbled screen
today (some of the times at least), where previous attempts just yielded a 
blank screen.

All this with the latest stuff from a dist-upgrade today.
