+ <p>[8 December] <strong>The "sanitized" checkout and <code>tar</code> archive of XFree86 CVS HEAD as of 2004-02-12
+ have been taken offline.</strong> It turned out my original analysis of the extent of the application of the X-Oz
+ license (a.k.a. XFree86 1.1 license) to XFree86 CVS <em>prior</em> to the mass-relicensing in February 2004 was
+ incorrect, and exaggerated its impact. The XFree86 "auto configuration code" was originally checked in under the
+ traditional, GPL-compatible license in October 2003, and parts of it were quietly relicensed under the X-Oz terms in
+ December 2003 without any actual code changes taking place. See the <a
+ href="/xsf/XFree86/branches-4.3.0-sid/debian/HACKING">HACKING document</a> for more information. Note that this
+ doesn't have much practical impact except render a few files more "borrowable" for patches to Debian's packaging of
+ XFree86 4.3.0 &mdash; we still plan to move to X.Org after the release of Debian "sarge", as described in the <a
+ href="trunk/debian/local/FAQ.xhtml#debianplans">FAQ</a>. In other news, expect releases of XFree86 4.1.0-16woody5
+ and XFree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-9 soon. <address>branden</address></p>
+
<p>[28 September] <strong>XFree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 has been accepted into Debian unstable.</strong> Thanks to Fabio
     for handling this release! <address>branden</address></p>
