Bug#279087: Fwd: X crashing

Package: xserver-xfree86

Hi,

My X is crashing on my system. The symptoms are:
- CPU usage of process XFree86 -> 99%
- KDE Desktop freeze
- Mouse can still be moved, but applications do not react on mouse
activities, like window move, desktop change, etc.
- Keyboard is unusable, even Num Lock is not toggable

My distribution is Debian Sid.

Graphics card (lspci -v):
0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 RF/SG
AGP (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc Magnum/Xpert128/X99/Xpert2000
Flags: bus master, stepping, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11
        Memory at d8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
        I/O ports at a000 [size=256]
        Memory at dd000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
        Capabilities: <available only to root>

The error message from /var/log/XFree86.0.log.old in the last line is:
(EE) R128(0): R128CCEWaitForIdle: (DEBUG) CCE idle took j = 0

Do you have a cure, as this is getting annoying, because it happens quite
often? Could you also please answer with PM, as I do not follow the bug
report lists (except for trouble shooting incidents to avoid RTFM answers)
and I would prefer not to miss the solution.

"Danke" and best regards
Silvério Santos
