OK, I understand now. This *is* a sawfish bug (perhaps made more
obvious by other GNOME bugs), but the maintainer doesn't feel inclined
to fix it because upstream development has effectively ceased. I
think it's a bit disappointing (I much prefer sawfish to metacity)
since I think bugfixing is still happening upstream and I suspect this
is the kind of thing that might be fixed, but it's quite
understandable.
