Hi Kos, Fabio, Branden,

Accidentally, the problem disappeared (for me) after BIOS update 
(the original motivation for the BIOS update had been to get ACPI).
Old BIOS: 08 August 2000.
New BIOS: 17 April 2002 (ROM 6R-0315.02/ 686R_2002.0315)
